Happens sometimes, but it's quite rare (actualy happens a lot, look at memory modules for example ).

Heard of certain motherboards not starting up with certain power supplies, a few years back certain asus boards would not recognize maxtor harddrives, etc.
Because such things/problems are rare, you usualy don't think of something like that.

A well, it's sorted, hope you now at least can enjoy your PC without troubles .
